Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland gives cautious welcome to €4M funding announcement

4 February,2022
The CEO of Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland (SBHI) has welcomed the allocation of €4M by the Government to assist with delays in paediatric orthopaedic procedures. Gerry Maguire has said that although all additional funding is to be welcomed, this is only scratching the surface of a huge problem.
‘While this funding is welcome, we at SBHI know that this will only help a very small number of our children who are in chronic pain and anguish because of delayed surgeries. These delays are not only causing such disgraceful issues for the very people our country should be protecting, but they are also causing potential worsening of their disability as they get older.’
‘We have been constantly campaigning for directly targeted funding to stop this torture for our young members. It is high time that both Minister Donnelly and Minister Rabbitte fixed the issue rather than sticking plasters over it.’
