Introducing… the SBHI GP Screening Card!

Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland are delighted to announce the launch of our new GP Screening Card! Every adult living with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus (SB/H) registered as an SBHI Member will receive a Card in the post. Find out more below!
What is the SBHI GP Screening Card? The SBHI GP Screening Card is a unique card which people living with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus (SB/H) can take with them when visiting their GP. The Card contains a list of essential medical checks which you should be receiving annually from your GP. The list on the back of the Card will save you from having to remember each health check of which you should be availing. On the inside of the Card, there is a description of each health check and how it can be actioned by your GP. If your GP cannot conduct particular health checks, they can refer you to the relevant service.
Why was the GP Screening Card created? It has become increasingly apparent that many adult service users living with SB/H are not accessing essential healthcare checks. This Card is a convenient support to those living with SB/H to independently manage their own health.
Where can I get a GP Screening Card? Every adult living with SB/H registered as an SBHI Member will receive a Card in the post. If you haven’t received one, please contact our National Resource Centre: T: 01 457 2329 E: info@sbhi.ie
How do I use the GP Screening Card? We recommend that you visit your GP annually at minimum and that you bring this Card with you. Once you have your GP Screening card, you should: • Make an appointment with your GP and bring your GP Screening Card. • Show your GP this Card so that they can provide the necessary check-ups. • Once your appointment has finished, make sure to take your GP Screening Card back and reuse it for all your appointments moving forward.
