Dedicated Counselling Service

3 July,2023
 UPDATE FROM CEO
You will remember that I spoke over our AGM weekend about our intention to introduce a dedicated counselling service for our members. This is a commitment we will make in our SBHI Strategic Plan 2023-2028. It is an acknowledgement that many of us will testify that living with and coping with Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus can be as much a psychological challenge as a physical one. I am delighted therefore to let you know that SBHI’s first dedicated counselling service is now in place. This service is free of charge and will be a self or clinician referral service. The staff of SBHI will not have a role in the operation of the service. Discussions on your requirements to avail of the service and how this service will be offered to you are strictly between you and the counsellor.
To arrange a discussion regarding the possibility of availing of our counselling service we have a dedicated phone-line which will be facilitated by our counselling provider. The counselling provider has a vast amount of experience working with people living with Spina Bifida/Hydrocephalus. Our counsellor is in private practice and for your information has the following qualifications –
• Master of Arts Psychology
• Master of Arts Counselling & Psychotherapy
• Master of Sciences Sport Exercise & Performance psychology
and has experience from working in the following areas –
• Mental health settings
• Adolescent & Adult Addiction services
• Disability sector
• Homelessness sector
The number to contact is: 087-6066558
